Telegram Passes 500 Million Downloads on Google Play

Telegram Passes 500 Million Downloads on Google Play

Instant messaging service Telegram has made a significant success in the Google Play Store. The app has exceeded 500 million downloads, although it lags behind its competitors.

Telegram, which has become one of the biggest competitors of WhatsApp with the increasing number of users, announced that it will add group video speech to the platform later in the year. The company says the new feature will be introduced to help people stay in touch during and after the coronavirus outbreak.

Instant messaging service is not preinstalled on any Android phone. Despite this, the app has surpassed 500 million downloads in the Google Play Store. WhatsApp has 5 billion downloads and Google Messages has 1 billion downloads.

Unlike these two apps, however, Telegram completely relies on user downloads. This has been particularly successful, especially with the experimental Telegram X client making 10 million downloads. As we know, Telegram currently offers users the ability to send messages and make voice calls using end-to-end encryption.

The company, which has improved its features every day, has also improved its training tools by adding exam mode to its surveys. All these innovations play a major role in increasing the popularity of the application in a short time. Besides Telegram, Zoom is in high demand due to the increasing internet usage of hundreds of millions of people who are under quarantine due to the coronavirus outbreak.

So much so that Zoom announced that it has gained 100 million new users in the past 3 weeks, reaching 300 million users. On the other hand, the search giant Google announced that the Meet video chat service gained 2 million new users per day. As for Facebook, it is known that more than 700 million accounts are included in the voice and video conversation every day in Messenger and WhatsApp, which are under the company, and the number of calls has increased more than twice in most countries since the coronavirus epidemic started.
