Telegram Passes 500 Million Downloads on Google Play
Instant messaging service Telegram has made a significant success in the Google Play Store. The app has exceeded 500 million downloads, although it lags behind its competitors.
Telegram, which has become one of the biggest competitors of WhatsApp with the increasing number of users, announced that it will add group video speech to the platform later in the year. The company says the new feature will be introduced to help people stay in touch during and after the coronavirus outbreak.
Instant messaging service is not preinstalled on any Android phone. Despite this, the app has surpassed 500 million downloads in the Google Play Store. WhatsApp has 5 billion downloads and Google Messages has 1 billion downloads.
Unlike these two apps, however, Telegram completely relies on user downloads. This has been particularly successful, especially with the experimental Telegram X client making 10 million downloads.
